Since our founding in 2003, Exa Education has become one of the UK's leading independent education ISPs. Below, you can find out more about some of the major developments and events we've seen over the last few years:
Starting out in Halifax with a 7-person team, we began to offer popular connectivity options like ADSL and dial-up, along with email and web services.
We launch the first version of our SurfProtect® content filtering software, giving users complete control over their filtering, far more customisable than other options.
With our business increasing in size, we move to new offices in Cottingley, Bradford. Deploying a high-capacity core network, we significantly increase our capacity to offer our customers high-quality services.
We collectively move a number of schools away from local authority control, bringing them better connectivity, content filtering and other services. Hundreds of schools become Exa Education customers.
Developing further as an Independent Schools Specialist, we develop email services designed specifically for schools - our StaffMail and PupilMail solutions.
We deploy the next-generation Internet protocol - IPv6 - across our network. This early adoption provides our network with a level of future-proofing, ensuring that our services will be largely unaffected by further changes.
We are contracted to provide Internet services to over 95% of the initial Free Schools - in one county, over 75% of schools choose Exa Education services over a 3-month period.
We create our open source ExaProxy service. We also introduce ICAP to our filtering service, adding Active Directory integration to give schools an even greater level of control over their filtering.
With academies starting to appear, we receive a significant increase in enquiries. We also launch ExaBGP, an open-source networking tool used by a number of schools, businesses and major global companies.
With a hugely increased number of customers (hundreds of schools migrating to our services in March alone), we expand again to ensure that we can continue to provide our customers with our award-winning customer service.
Expanding our business even further, we move to a new office near central Bradford, launch a new version of our SurfProtect software, and start providing future proof DarkLight Internet - the biggest step for Internet connectivity since the introduction of Broadband.
